Born to Haitian parents on Council of the Three Fires and Miami lands of present-day Illinois, Tania grew up between Chicagoโs South Side and Brooklynโs Flatlands neighborhood. Haitian, African, and Indigenous traditions guide her practice. Working across mixed media, installation, photography, painting, and social practice, she assembles found objects, folklore, craft, and spirituality into hybrid forms that move between the material and the immaterial.
She has exhibited in New York at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair with Tout-Monde Foundation, Haiti Cultural Exchange (HCX), the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Art (MoCADA), CaribBEING House in residence at the Brooklyn Museum, and the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. In Chicago, she has shown at the Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC), and in San Francisco at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), and SOMArts Cultural Center. โ
As a curator and cultural producer, she develops exhibitions and programs that bring artists and communities into dialogue around migration, memory, and the Caribbean diaspora. She serves as Community Director of FORGOTTEN LANDS, a nonprofit platform for contemporary Caribbean art, publishing, and community programs. She also founded STR.DST.MRKT. (pronounced Stardust Market), a mobile studio, gallery, and concept shop that turns everyday spaces into sites of creative and cultural exchange.
She holds degrees from California College of the Arts (MFA), Columbia University (MA, African American Studies), and Earlham College (BA, Psychology).
