Opening Reception What Paper Remembers
Haiti Cultural Exchange, Vizyon Atistik presents What Paper Remembers: Marks, Memory and Labor
Through drawing, printmaking, collage, and mixed media, the What Paper Remembers considers paper as a material that carries memory, labor, and cultural continuity. Paper absorbs gesture records pressure and hesitation, time, revision and return, while holding traces of the hand and the persistence of ideas. Centering practices shaped by embodied knowledge and movement across place, the exhibition affirms paper not as a provisional surface, but as one that remembers and endures.
Curated by HCX fellow Yvena Despagne and Executive Director Rรฉgine M. Roumain.
On view from April 25 through June 7

HASTA LA RAรZ (2017)
The NYU Department of Social and Cultural Analysis presents Black Women in Motion: Race Gender and Migration on film, a monthly series exploring how Black women navigate displacement globally. This Thursday, BWIM presents a screening of Hasta La Raรญz directed by Juan Carlos Gonzรกlez Dรญaz and discussion with Ana Marรญa Belique (Reconoci.do) and Lou Cornum (NYU).
Imagine that the country where you were born and raised suddenly tells you that you do not belong there. Hasta La Raรญz is the story of Ana, Deisy, and Virtudes, three women who face this reality in the Dominican Republic following the denationalization of Dominicans of Haitian descent in 2013. While parts of Dominican society reject them due to their parents' origins, others join their political struggle and embrace their journey to reconnect with their roots.
Free and open to the public.
RSVP required here.
